Side Effects
Botox® For those seeking natural-looking, anti-ageing results, Botox treatment is a popular non-surgical treatment designed to temporarily relax facial muscles. It helps to iron out wrinkles and lines on the face and can be used in most areas to achieve a smoother, younger look.

Being the most prevalent cosmetic treatment in the USA, botulinum toxin injections are extremely safe, backed by clinical studies and trials, and proven to give lasting results.

Botox is a purified protein and a natural substance, with Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval since 1989. Botox is a brand of botulinum toxin that is established and trusted within the industry. With proven efficacy, we believe this solution to be the safest and most effective form of anti-wrinkle injection on the market.

Most patients require sessions every 3 to 4 months, depending on the desired result and the individual. While the effects of Botox are not permanent, they do last and we can also adjust your treatment plan accordingly over time.

Many patients undergoing botulinum toxin treatment for the first time are apprehensive, as they do not know what to expect from treatment. It is important to do your research and meet with the practitioner who will carry out your treatment beforehand, and upon consultation you can ask specific questions to put you at ease.

Our highly-trained Nurse Practitioner Karen Bates administers Botox treatments at My Face Aesthetics Clinic Bolton. Karen is a warm, friendly and professional nurse practitioner who not only has extensive knowledge and experience in nursing, but more specifically in injectable treatments. She has worked privately in the north of England for many years, and she has also practiced at world renown PHI Clinic, Harley Street London.

Through regularly treating a whole range of skin complaints and ageing concerns, Karen is highly-skilled and is understanding of patients’ needs. She listens to each and every patient and combines what the patient wishes to accomplish through treatment with what is realistically achievable and safe for the patient.

We advise all patients undergoing Botox treatment to keep the area cool after each session. It is advisable to avoid hot baths, swimming pools and saunas, and also exercise within the first 48 hours. This is to help gain the most from your treatment.

While there are not any clinical studies to show that treatment is unsafe to those who are pregnant of breastfeeding, we do not treat women who are lactating or expecting.

Another main concern of patients is how they will look immediately after treatment. Side effects are usually limited to slight bruising and swelling in the injected area, and also some mild pin-prick bleeding. This should subside after 4 hours and is easily disguised with makeup.

Botox works by weakening the muscles into which it is injected. As facial muscles contract, the loose skin above those muscles wrinkles. By weakening the muscles, the wrinkles are reduced

Botox is very safe when injected by experienced physicians. Although its active ingredient is a neurotoxin, the small amounts used in Botox injections make more serious side effects virtually non-existent. Some people can develop eyelid drooping that lasts up to three weeks. This usually is caused by Botox moving to unwanted areas, affecting the wrong muscles, and is often a result of the patient rubbing the injection sites.
Some people on occassion may develop slight brusing - this usualy clears 4 to 16 days.

No. Results will vary, but results typically last from four to six months. At that point, when wrinkles begin to reappear, another Botox session will be needed. Lines and wrinkles often appear less severe over time because the muscles are being trained to relax and stop contracting..
